AROUND NOLA: Red Beans Parade Charity Tournament To See Who Has the BEST Red Beans and Rice in New Orleans

LOVE NOLA made from red beans - from Red Beans ParadeIt’s time for the Madness of March to begin – New Orleans style. Now while most are setting up their brackets for the big college basketball tournament, the ones behind the Red Beans Parade is setting up a tournament that is shockingly the first of its kind in the Crescent City – the tournament to see who makes the best red beans in town! This tournament, which will help raise money for two local non-profit charities, Anna’s Place and Make Music NOLA, will be using a bracket style setup, pop-up serving tasting events, and it all leads to the ‘Final Fork’ that determines who actually has the best red beans and rice in New Orleans.

The Red Beans Parade will organize this spoof of college basketball’s March Madness that will feature 64 chefs and restaurants competing against each other in single elimination blind taste tests at corner bars, book stores, groceries and markets throughout the month long tournament. The tournament will begin March 9th and go until April 2nd with the championship round being held at the Southern Food and Beverage Museum.

How can you participate and win prizes?

Red Bean Madness brought to you by the Red Beans Parade group! You will have the opportunity to make your predictions (and donations) through a bracket that will be available online at RedBeansNOLA.com and in paper-form beginning on March 2nd when the 64 restaurants are announced to the public. The person who is most accurate in their predictions will win many prizes that include: t-shirts, a free red bean tattoo, an original piece of bean art made by the members of the Red Beans Parade, and a prize package from the event sponsor: Camellia Brand Beans – who is the favorite red bean of New Orleans since 1923.

“We’re excited to create an only-in-New-Orleans event,” says Devin De Wulf, the founder of the Red Beans Parade that the members of the Red Beans Parade, “and excited to use our parade group to give back in this tiny way to two local non-profits we admire.” De Wulf goes on to say: “Importantly, we also really want to know which restaurant in town can legitimately claim the best Red Beans and Rice.”
