Celebrations by Danielle Walker is a cookbook that offers a year’s worth of gluten-free, dairy free, and paleo recipes for every occasion.
If you’re new to the paleo or gluten-free lifestyle, this cookbook has a lot of great information and recipes to help you make the transition to this way of eating. To help you out, with each recipe, you not only get a list of ingredients, a detailed and easy to follow set of directions, but also a ‘make it ahead‘ section to assist you and a ‘tidbits’ section to help you with quick tips on cooking or locating ingredients.
Walker broke up all of the recipes based on the season in which the chapter celebrates. After the introduction, you get a great chapter on the ingredients, kitchen tools, glossary, and everything you need to get going with cooking these recipes. The recipe chapters are for New Year’s Eve, Game Day Buffet, Valentine’s Day, Easter Brunch, Mother’s Day Luncheon, Father’s Day Cookout, Birthday Party, Fourth of July Barbecue, Summer Shower, Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. At the beginning of the chapter, you get the menu for the celebration. As an example, for the Father’s Day Barbecue, the menu and recipes are for Knife-and-Fork Pork Ribs, Tri-Tip with Grilled Vegetables and Chimichurri Sauce, Baked “Beans”, Skillet “Corn” Bread, Peach Cobbler, and Margarita.
This is a great cookbook. The recipes are wonderful and easy to follow. It’s filled with amazing photographs by Erin Kunkel. But the best part is, everyone will enjoy this cookbook – not just those following the gluten-free or paleo lifestyle – because I don’t. I eat clean and exercise, but I don’t limit my food to any particular diet. I was expecting some different foods, bland options, and a book full of recipes that I would have zero interest in making for me and my family. However, I was wrong. The books is well laid out, all of the food looks amazing, ingredients are easy to find, and it’s food I can make for the entire family.
I was given a copy of Celebrations by Danielle Walker in exchange for an honest review. I highly recommend this book for any cook. You’ll find a lot of great recipes within this book – you don’t need to be living a paleo or gluten-free lifestyle to enjoy this book.
