AROUND NOLA: Weekly Cooking Series at the Southern Food and Beverage Museum

southernfoodandbeveragemuseumIf you’re planning on being in New Orleans this fall, you have to stop into the Southern Food and Beverage Museum (SoFab). The SoFab will kick off its weekly cooking series and lunch demonstrations on Monday, August 22, 2016 with the return of Taste of New Orleans. The series is a culinary demonstration and lunch that features lessons on traditional New Orleans fare.

This year, they have added a new program called: Creole Italian. The Creole Italian class with begin on Thursday, August 25, 2016. This class will take an in-depth look into how to create delicious Creole Italian dishes and the cultural and historic traditions behind them.

Both classes, Taste of New Orleans and Creole Italian, will take place weekly in the state-of-the-art Rouses Culinary Innovation Center by Jenn-Air and are priced at $40 per person. The price includes museum admission and lunch.

Taste of New Orleans – Mondays, 11AM – 1PM

Guests will enjoy learning how to prepare traditional dishes and take the secrets of New Orleans’ flavors home to their kitchens. The Lunch menu follows:

  • Fresh Tomato Salad with Creole Remoulade Sauce
  • Creole Jambalaya with Chicken, Sausage and Vine-Ripened Tomatoes
  • Bananas Foster Flambé with Vanilla Ice Cream
  • New Orleans French bread with butter
  • Iced Tea and Coffee

Creole Italian Cooking Class – Thursdays, 11AM – 1PM

In this new weekly program, guests will learn about the origin of Creole Italian cuisine when Sicilians came to New Orleans in the late 1800’s and adapted the established Creole ingredients into their cooking. A relaxed two-hour demonstration and lunch will feature the following menu:

  • Italian Olive Salad with Fresh Lemon
  • Creole Red Gravy with Sweet Italian Sausage and Pasta
  • Made to Order Snoballs
  • Garlic Bread and Iced Tea

Classes are available for private group reservations with additional add-ons or specialty menus upon request. Celebrity chefs are also available to conduct demonstrations. A list of available chefs can be provided by SoFAB upon request. Special dietary needs can be accommodated with 48 hours advance notice. Admission to the museum, along with the Museum of the American Cocktail, is included in the demonstration price. There is a discounted price for SoFAB Members.
